CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
MEETING MINUTES

The July meeting of the Greater Delmar Chamber of Commerce was held at Bank of Delmarva’s Delmar, MD branch on Tuesday, July 21, 2015.
Chamber President, Lisa Ellis called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
The following members we in attendance: Lisa Ellis; Bank of Delmarva, Diane Johnson; Secretary/Treasurer,
Conrad Morgan; Mitchell’s Martial Arts, Fred Baker; Comcast Spotlight, Essie Hurchalla; Avery Hall Insurance, Maureen Cody; Avery Hall Insurance, John Johnson; Web Design by Galileo, Robert Trout; Bennett Termite, Kim McWilliams; Greenbriar Self Storage and Beth Scurti; Send Out Cards.
We also had Delaware Senator, Bryant Richardson in attendance.
Thank you to Lisa Ellis, Bank of Delmarva Branch Manager for hosting our meeting this month.
Motion was made by Conrad Morgan to approve meeting minutes from the June meeting. The motion was seconded by Dori Mowbray and was passed with all in favor.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

Treasurer, Diane Johnson reported our total funds to be $16,338.89 as of 7/21/15:

Main Checking Account: $ 7,106.96 Scholarship Account: $ 2778.00
Bank of Delmarva CD #1: $ 3820.18 Bank of Delmarva CD #2: $2583.75
PayPal Account: $50.00

Motion was made by Conrad Morgan to approve the Treasurer Report. The motion was seconded by Dori Mowbray and was passed with all in favor.

READING OF BILLS & COMMUNICATIONS:

Diane Johnson, Secretary/Treasurer reported all bills as being paid.

Diane also reported she had been contacted by Halpern Eye Care in regards to becoming a member. They had asked about the proration of dues and Diane explained that we don’t do that anymore. She has not heard anything back from them but it looks like they may wait until January 2016 to join.
Diane stated that Wells Fargo has also inquired about membership and has been sent an application. She said she has mailed several applications lately but hasn’t received anything back as of yet.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT:

President, Lisa Ellis welcomed Senator Richardson to the meeting. Senator Richardson reported he will have a booth at the Delmar Heritage Day on Sept. 19th and he would like to talk to the business owners and managers in Delmar to discuss what the State of Delaware should be doing to help businesses in the state. If you’re available and have a few minutes, be sure to stop by his booth and let your opinions be heard.

Lisa reported she had spoken with someone at Delmar High School about the shed project. She sent a message over to Bill Carpenter, the Tech teacher and has found out they have a shed in the back of the school but he doesn’t know who it’s for. She hasn’t heard anything back on that yet. She explained to Mr. Carpenter that maybe our shed could be a project for the upcoming school year. Lisa also said Sussex Tech may be another option if it doesn’t work out at Delmar.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Christmas Parade –

The 2015 Delmar Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015 with a rain date of Sat. Dec. 12th.
If your business or organization would like an application to participate in the parade, please email Diane at infochamber@comcast.net . Applications will start going out in early October.

Citizen of the Year –

Nomination boxes will be out at the following locations in August through Mid-September:

Bank of Delmarva – Delmar branch
Delmar Town Hall
M&T Bank
Delmar Public Library
Delmar Post Office

Guidelines are listed in each nomination box.

Day in the Park –

No report.

Volunteer –

No report.

Scholarship –

No report.

Membership –
We had no new members this month but we did send a requested application out to Peddler’s Four in Delmar.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Storage Shed – See President’s report.

Brochures – Mark Cathell is way too busy to head up this project so Beth Scurti and Kim McWilliams will work towards putting together something to present.

Website – Good news is, our site fell off the Google hit list!
Bad news is, it only lasted for about 3 weeks.
John is still working to get a new site up on a different platform. Stay tuned!
Recycle Containers – There have still been no responses.
NEW BUSINESS:

November will be here before we know it. November is the time we do our nominations for Officers and
Directors for the upcoming year(s). If you are interested in serving as an Officer or a Director for the Chamber, please let us know. Lisa reminded everyone she would not be accepting of the post as President the end of her 2015 term, for health and personal reasons.

GOOD OF THE ORDER:

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 15th at 3rd Wave Brewery in Delmar, DE. . The meeting will begin at 7pm.
Our October meeting location is to be determined. If you are interested in hosting the meeting for October, please contact Lisa Ellis at lellis@bankofdelmarva.com or give her a call at: 410-742-9401.
Our November meeting will be held at Pond’s Edge Apartment Homes on Barbara Ann Way in Delmar, MD on Tuesday, November 17th. The meeting will begin at 7pm.
We do not hold a meeting in December.

Motion to adjourn was made by John Johnson. The motion was seconded by Beth Scurti and was passed with all in favor. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
